Guardians of the Everglades

The Everglades ecosystem is under severe threat, affecting 8 million people.  Not enough people are aware, but time is not on our side as the Everglades continues to decline.

The Everglades ecosystem is under severe threat, affecting 8 million people. The Everglades is necessary for Floridians’ health, economic and environmental future. Not enough people are aware, but time is not on our side as the Everglades continues to decline.

Guardians of the Everglades® is poised to act now.  We are the only organization dedicated to spreading the Everglades word through powerful visual messaging and personalization, using art and stories of leadership to create an emotional attachment that changes behavior and inspires action.

Guardians of the Everglades® is a multimedia installation accompanied by a documentary film and coffee table book. The exhibition employs creative presentation of eleven life-size classical oil portraits, unique photographic presentation of the fragility of endangered species and habitats, and the stories of eleven conservation leaders. The twelfth is a mirror suggesting that the viewer can also be a Guardian of the Everglades.

While Nicholas Petrucci completes the portraits, Connie is interviewing each of the Guardians to produce clips for the exhibition and a narrative for the documentary film.  The plot is both simple and complex:

The protagonists are 11 living men and women working in different ways toward a united goal - to protect the central character, the star, the vast Everglades ecosystem.

The antagonists are ignorance, indifference and greed in the form of poorly regulated development, predatory agriculture and careless exploitation. Will the Everglades provide clean water for homes, agriculture and recreation?  The outcome is in the balance. The Guardians provide a model for understanding and the power of leadership.
