Here
in Florida, and especially south Florida, nearly all of us are
newcomers lacking a many-generational acquaintance with our own
land. We bring yesterday’s understanding to a land so different
from any we have experienced. In my 20 years here I have come
to know and love my adopted wilderness and write, with my camera
and in my books, lectures and articles, what is really, a prayer
to nature – to the land and water and to all living things.
It is a love story of how I was enchanted by our swamp environment
and came to love and respect her as she slowly revealed her beauty
to me. I see what I do as the confluence of science, art, and
the spiritual center of life. I am passionate about this paradise
and I want everyone to love and care about it as I do, and be
sensitive to the inter-dependence of all life with its infinite
perfection and beauty.
