Africa - Kunjani & Art Alive

AFRICA IN HIS BLOOD

Did you know that Nicholas lived in Africa with his father as a young man?  Yes, Uganda and Kenya, and he took an art course at Makerere University in Kampala.  His painting, Mombasa, 32” x 28” Framed Oil with Palette Knife on Canvas, link Nicholas’ love of Mombasa, where his father had a house on the beach, with his current work.

“Her Honor - the African Mona Lisa,” 20” x 24” Framed Oil on Canvas, is, some say, his best work.  He met and immediately was in the spell of Nigerian jurist, Mrs. H. A. Balogun, a long time friend of Connie’s.  His respect for her inner beauty is evident in his delicate brush strokes and in the almost-living hijab in red.  These and several other paintings will be featured at Kunjani Craft Coffee and Gallery during the month of January.

NEXT ART ALIVE - WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 1st, 2017

We Wish You Joy and Contentment

In Buddhist symbolism the lotus is symbolic of purity of body, speech, and mind. While rooted in the mud, its flowers blossom on long stalks as if floating above the muddy waters of attachment and desire.

The lotus is also symbolic of Spirituality.

At this special time of year, we wish you joy and contentment.  May we all rise above the mud and reach for the stars.

iLCP Senior Founding Fellow and Board of Directors, Connie, spent a week in Washington at WILDSpeak

with her international conservation photographer colleagues.  Steve Winter keynoted Big Cats — remember the photo of the panther on a ridge in front of the HOLLYWOOD sign? — while Brian Skerry brought us Luminous Seas - his are the memorable shark images — while Sandesh Kadur explored India’s Mountains of Life. Many awesome others. We need, now, especially, to support conservation efforts not only for our precious Everglades (Guardians of the Everglades, of course), but also conservation around the world.  iLCP members bring the beauty and need for care to all of us.  It’s past Giving Tuesday, but not too late to make your 2016 tax deductible contributions to Guardians of the Everglades - http://www.wifv.org/events/#id=245&cid=783&wid=401 or to the International League of Conservation Photographers - http://www.give2gether.com/projects/focus-on-conservation-2016.babyrat/

WE ALL NEED TO STEP UP NOW!

Beautiful, too. Let's keep it all safe forever.

SPEND A NIGHT IN THE BIG CYPRESS  ~ EXPERIENCE THE WESTERN EVERGLADES AND SUPPORT THE GUARDIANS OF THE EVERGLADES

Want more info? guardiansoftheeverglades.com/you-are-invited/
(Click on the video trailer and watch Franklin Adams in action.)

Guardian Franklin Adams is offering an overnight trip for two into the Big Cypress Swamp of the Western Everglades. Franklin is a Florida Master Naturalist and a Gladesman Conservationist with a lifetime of experience in the Everglades region. This is an opportunity to have a memorable wilderness experience and learn about the cultural and natural history of this unique area while supporting The Guardians of the Everglades project.

Travel will be by swamp buggy to a remote privately owned rustic camp in an area rarely visited in the Big Cypress Swamp. Experience the open prairies, cypress strands, hardwood hammocks and pine islands as you slowly travel into the interior. Deer, wild turkeys, wading birds, raptors and Big Cypress fox squirrels are frequently seen. If you are fortunate enough, you may be rewarded with seeing a black bear or Florida panther. Wild flowers and butterflies can be observed and photographed if that is your interest.

Enjoy the sunset as you relax in the peace and quiet while sitting around the camp fire while native Floridian Chef Karl Greer prepares a delicious traditional cypress country supper.

YOU DON’T GET MANY OPPORTUNITIES LIKE THIS ONE!

Start the bidding at $5,000.00. Enter bids to guardiansoftheeverglades@gmail.com or call 239-405-2010 for more info.

Tax deductible above the value of the trip.

Video images will cycle inside and outside.  What do you think of the art, the concept behind the project, where should it be seen, how to get the Guardians out of the studio and into public view? Would a documentary stimulate conservation?  How about a book?  Or all three?  See, enjoy, and talk.

Look for the Fuchsia ART banner!

SALON AT SEVEN - “BUT IS IT ART?”

Studio at 1719 Trade Center Way #3
Naples, FL 34109

A short video will ask “What is art?” to get the discussion started. Mirriam-Webster’s definition is “something that is created with imagination and skill and that is beautiful or that expresses important ideas or feelings.”  What do you think? Let’s start the conversation.

Is It Art or Is It Love?
